Iowa District West Convention
The Iowa District West celebrated its triennial convention Sunday, June 21st through Wednesday, June 24th. Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod President Gerald Kieschnick preached at the opening worship service on Sunday evening. He also spoke at the Monday morning session of the convention. He urged the delegates to celebrate the unity of faith enjoyed more fully by the LCMS than many other church bodies. He also encouraged the delegates to be about the mission of the church which was a recurring theme of the convention. The essayist, Dr. Joel Lehenbauer, chairman of the Synod’s Committee on Theology and Church Relations delivered an interesting study of the book of 1 Peter. In the Bible study delegates saw that the early church, as today, carried the Gospel into a hostel world by living their faith. There was no controversy at the convention. The resolutions came largely from the Iowa District West Board of Directors and encouraged support of the Lord’s work especially as relates to the outreach of the local congregation. The theme of the Convention was “In Serving Complete My Joy” based on Philippians 2:2. A recurring theme of the convention was the evangelical attitude and the mission emphasis that pervades Iowa District West. Rev. Paul Sieveking was re elected to the office of District President. Rev. Steve Turner was elected to the office of District 1st Vice President. Rev. Steve Schulz was elected to the office of District 2nd Vice President. President Sieveking announced that there will be meetings held at various locations throughout the District whose purpose is to share the work of the Convention.
